Claims They Just Went on a Lengthy Vacation and Everyone Simply Forgot About Them

In a wet and wild twist no one saw coming, the iconic city of Atlantis has made a splashy return from the briny deep. Its sudden re-appearance near the Bermuda Triangle prompted astonishment worldwide. But the city’s nonchalant clarification — that they'd merely been on a prolonged holiday — has left jaws even further agape.

King Neptune XII, donning snazzy Bermuda shorts and a sun hat, hastily organized a press conference atop the city's glittering central tower. "Honestly, it was just a spa break that stretched out. We figured a few millennia off wouldn't be a big deal," he said, sipping a coconut drink.

Historians worldwide are scrambling to revise textbooks. A newly discovered post-it note stuck to a page in Plato’s "Critias" reads, "At Atlantis. Back in 4,000 years or so. Keep my scrolls safe."

The city, once whispered about in hushed tones as an advanced civilization lost to time, took full advantage of its hiatus. "Think of it as a cultural exchange program," mused the Mermaid Minister of Culture, Ariel Venti. "We mingled with the finest dolphins, took interpretive jellyfish dance classes, and even had a film fest — 'Jaws' was a comedy hit."

Tourism agencies, sensing a golden opportunity, are frenziedly crafting luxury vacation packages. "Experience Atlantis Reborn!" one advert declares. "Enjoy ancient wisdom, modern amenities, and, for the brave-hearted, an adrenaline-filled Kraken ride."

The Olympics Committee, always on the lookout for novel attractions, is considering the introduction of Deep-Sea Trident Throwing, hoping to cash in on Atlantis's sporting prowess.

However, it's not all sunshine and seashells. The Little Mermaid, now a prominent undersea influencer, voiced her frustration. "Their sudden reappearance messed up the ocean's feng shui! And don't get me started on their noisy underwater fiestas."

Local marine life shares the sentiment. "It was peaceful, just bubbles and whale songs. Now? Atlantis returns with its coral jazz festivals and seaweed fashion weeks," lamented Gloria, a grouchy anglerfish.

With their city now firmly on the map, Atlantis's Department of Tourism is in overdrive. "From our glimmering spires to the mysterious Abyssal Plaza, there's something for everyone," gushed Neptune XII.

Regarding the future, and whether Atlantis plans to stick around or vanish again, the city’s newly-appointed Director of Mysterious Affairs coyly remarked, "Let’s see how the next season of 'Underwater's Got Talent' pans out.”
